French Wine
French wines are known around the globe as some of the finest wines in
existence. The nation of France produces nearly 9 billion bottles of wine each year, spread across ten
different wine regions that each have unique flavors and styles. Five of these wine regions in France are
Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire Valley, and Rhone Valley.
The most popular French wines can be grouped by white grape varieties and red grape vareties. Some of the most
popular white grape wines are: Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Muscadet, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris,
Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and White Burgundy. Some of the most popular red wines are Cabernet Franc,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Grenache, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.
More specifically, some of the greatest French wines could be the Romanée Conti in Burgundy, Pétrus in Pomerol
Bordeaux, or the Chateau Margaux in Bordeaux. These are some of the best books on French wine, for everyone from
the novice to the expert.
